Deal Summary
In August 2026, Ceniarth provided a $5 million senior loan to AHL Africa Credit Fund I, the first fund raised with third-party capital by AHL Venture Partners, an impact investment advisor that had historically arranged loans from the balance sheet of its parent charitable foundation and family office. Our commitment was made in partnership with a co-investor who contributed an additional $10 million, for a combined $15 million senior facility that is expected to be the Fund’s primary debt. The Fund provides senior secured, mezzanine and bridge loans of $2-10 million to high-growth, profitable businesses across East, West and Southern Africa in sustainable food and agriculture, financial inclusion and climate action.
Beneficiary Impact
The Fund lends to businesses serving smallholder farmers, underbanked consumers and small enterprises across the continent. The first investments showcase this range: an electric motorcycle financier serving motorbike taxi drivers in East Africa and an organic soy processor that pays price premiums and provides agronomy support to smallholder farmers in Nigeria.
AHL’s existing portfolio gives a good indication of the outcomes the Fund aims to deliver. In 2024, companies backed by AHL enabled 2.6 million people to access appropriate financial products and services, supported 23,000 businesses and SMEs, and delivered 381 million kg of nutritious products benefiting 5.3 million people, while climate-aligned investments avoided 29 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. The Fund will track jobs created and sustained as a key impact metric and targets at least half of its portfolio companies meeting the 2X gender criteria by the end of the fund’s life.

Intermediary Impact
AHL’s approach is to provide debt at scale to high-growth African businesses to demonstrate that lending in these markets can generate attractive returns, crowding in commercial capital and helping to develop the local lending ecosystem. Its ability to offer mid-sized tickets, rapid bridge funding and flexible mezzanine structures is highly additional for businesses looking to scale, particularly those that fall outside the deeper pools of credit available to more established sectors.
The Fund builds directly on the lending platform of AHL’s parent charitable foundation, which intends to focus increasingly on earlier-stage businesses and potentially act as a pipeline into the Fund.
Capital Additionality
Ceniarth and our co-investor are expected to be the Fund’s primary lenders. Our facility provides reasonably priced leverage, helping the Fund deploy more capital and write bigger tickets for its borrowers. It also backs a capable, mission-aligned emerging manager raising third-party capital for the first time.
